Time is getting close

I really need to start posting more often…

Been busy with work work, haven’t really touched the design for Renegade Studios since the last post. Hopefully within the next month everyone will start seeing some progress on the design, as well as some information about our project(s) starting to come out.

One of the projects that you’ll be hearing about once the new site launches are our City Builder, akin to the classic Sim City franchise, the initial version of it will actually be an open-source clone of the original Sim City, also know as Micropolis which itself is Open Source and available via your favorite package manager on Linux or GitHub. We’re writing our own custom game engine for this project, it’s initially going to start as a 2D game and evolve over time to a 3D game, we plan on bringing the true spirit of SimCity along.

We plan on the engine, called Grid, to be fully open-source, however, aside from the Micropolis assets (which will actually be a sample game included with the Grid Engine source code), the games themselves will be closed source and hopefully released on steam.

Our second project is a First Person Shooter and we’re using the Unreal Engine for its development, this is actually our main focus. Unlike the city builder, this is were most of our team’s effort is on, as I’m the only developer working on the city builder project at the moment. This project has been restarted a number of times but I think we may have finally ironed out our direction for it.
